Macaulay, 61, is best known for a series of large-format picture books that began with 'Cathedral' in 1973 and continued with 'City,' 'Pyramid,' 'Castle,' 'Unbuilding' and 'Mill.' Each tells a story, in slightly fictionalized form, of the planning and building of the edifice of the title. Only three books signed per adult, and one must be purchased in the museum shop. The event, included with regular Dixon admission, includes games, refreshments, music, an illustrated talk by Macaulay and a booksigning session. for 'Family Day' activities - no haircuts involved - in conjunction with the exhibition 'Building Books: The Art of David Macaulay,' on display through March 30. Local fans of Macaulay's work will be celebrating Saturday when he appears at Dixon Gallery and Gardens from 1 to 4 p.m. Last week, author and artist David Macaulay celebrated the completion of a long project, 'The Body Book' - 'longer than anything I've worked on,' he said in a telephone interview- by getting a haircut and shaving his beard. ![]()
